Board Member and Executive Strategic Planning

This one-day, highly interactive training session is designed with three main purposes:

  1. Creating a strategic plan that is not driven by goals (end results) but driven by strategies
  2. Developing approaches to successfully implement the strategic plan
  3. Monitoring and controlling the strategic plan in order to remain agile

This customized session is available for non-profit and for-profit organizations. Board members and executives who develop and control and monitor the implementation of the plan should attend and, if possible, senior management (who are responsible for implementing the your plan) should attend as well.

Most strategy sessions are designed to create a series of goals that the organization hopes to achieve over the next 1, 3, 5 or more years. Many of those goals, like New Year's Resolutions, are unfulfilled. That is because the most successful organizations throughout the world are not driven by goals, but by strategies.

While each session is customized based on client needs, but the following topics are regularly discussed:

  • Why you likely need both an internal and an external vision statement
  • Learning that a typical SWOT analysis is rarely leveraged, and generally a useless exercise
  • Risks should be numerically assessed with mitigation strategies and contingencies strategies
  • Stakeholders should be numerically assessed with management plans or mitigation plans
  • Values or value statements often deliver conflicting meanings - there are better ways to share your beliefs
  • There are 40 Enterprise-wide strategies that almost all organizations use - selecting 3-5 will focus your organization

Developing, implementing and controlling and monitoring strategies or a strategic plan are fundamental responsibilities that board members, executives and senior managers are asked to lead on a yearly basis. Making sure everyone has a strategic mindset, a clear vision, an internal and external analysis and 3-5 Enterprise strategies to drive the organization forward will help lead to success. This training session is designed around strategies, competitors, customers, not around goal setting, forecasting and budgeting. Those come after strategy development.

Fee: [For-profit organizations - $9,450].  [Non-profit organizations - $4,145].  The fee includes the facilitator, expenses and workbooks for session participants. The organization is responsible for the location, meals, audio/visual and other expenses related to the training session.
